I mean, I think the first one goes without saying…Glacier! Even though Glacier is in most of our backyards, go exploring and play tourist like it’s your first time going. Stop and take pictures “only the tourists take”. Buzz over to the East side of Glacier and drive around some parts of Glacier you may not see every year. Stop and check out the famous lodges and hotels that hold years of Glacier’s history.
Polebridge is also a fun adventure! Of course that also means stopping at the Polebridge Mercantile and grabbing some delicious baked goodies! Pack a picnic lunch and see where the road takes you. Who knows, you may need your passport…maybe you will end up in Waterton National Park (the Canadian side of Glacier National Park).
Wanna stay this side of the border? Head South and check out Flathead Lake, the biggest body of freshwater West of the Mississippi River. There’s lots of places to pull off the road and park, maybe even take a quick dip!
4. Flathead Valley
The Flathead Valley has a to do list 5 miles long and a little something for everyone on your summer road trip.
Glacier Highline, Amazing Fun Center, Big Sky Waterslides – to name just a few! Rent some bikes or ask some locals for their favorite hike. If the timing is right you can maybe even find and pick some fresh huckleberries along a hiking trail. Take a peek around the shops in Whitefish, peruse the valleys multiple farmers markets that take place throughout the week. Enjoy some local live music and a bite to eat at so many delicious restaurants we have to offer. Take a ride up the chairlifts on Whitefish Mtn. Resort and get some breathtaking pictures of the Valley from what feels like the top of the world. The Flathead Valley is your oyster!
5. Other Noteworthy Spots
A bit further south from Polson and the edge of Flathead Lake is the National Bison Range in Charlo, MT.
Should you head west when you leave Kalispell on Hwy 2, you’ll end up in Libby, MT. You’ll have the option to trek across the Swinging bridge and see Kootenai Falls. To complette the loop, head back on Hwy 37 and then onto Hwy 93 passing the Libby Dam and come home through Eureka and down into Whitefish.
Glacier Highline is here for your summer staycations!
